Service Description
Learn basic skills and how to correctly follow a sewing pattern to completion. Participants will learn basic skills: seam finishes, hems, zipper and button closures, curves, darts, pockets, etc. during first two classes, and then will be guided through the completion of a sewing pattern during the final 3 classes. Pattern and Fabric selection to be discussed in the first class and both to be approved by instructor in order to facilitate your success. This should be an exciting process, the reason why you come to class, to sew what you want to! This is part of the reason that I want to be able to see and approve your sewing pattern before following through. It gives us both time to get to know you as a sewist, and be realistic about what level you can start at, so that you can be satisfied with the outcome of your project. That way you have a strong foundation to build on for all your sewing endeavors to come! Materials required ; A 3-ring binder, 20 plastic page protectors, Pencil+Eraser, Seam ripper, 1 spool of Gutterman thread, Thread snippers, Fabric scissors, Fabric chalk or pen, Pins, Pin cushion and 1m Muslin Fabric (fabric that is intended for practicing with, not the fabric you will use for your final project) Please do not purchase the following until approval from teacher during class 1 or 2: -Sewing pattern of your choice and Fabric and other materials required for final project. About the Instructor: I have been sewing regularly for myself and my family for the past 6 years, and aside from completing a garment construction course at Pacific Design Acadmedy in Victoria, I have no formal training in sewing. This is something I consider to be an advantage in teaching you, my dear students, that you too can create the wardrobe you dream of, without being a trained professional. Generations before, average people knew how to make clothing. Only in recent history has this changed, to the point where clothing has become something we take for granted, and is even considered to be disposable. My dream is to change that, so that clothing becomes a way to express yourself, something you cherish! That you would own clothes that fit YOUR body. I can't wait to meet every one of you, and see yourself expressed in handmade clothing!
